"History remembers Robert F. Kennedy as a racial healer, a tribune for the poor, and the last progressive knight of a bygone era of American politics. But Kennedy's enshrinement in the liberal pantheon was actually the final stage of a journey that had its beginnings in the conservative 1950s. ...Bobby Kennedy's transformation from cold warrior to fiery liberal is a profoundly moving personal story that also offers a lens onto two of the most chaotic and confounding decades of twentieth-century American history. The first half of RFK's career underlines what the country was like in the era of Eisenhower, while his last years as a champion of the underclass reflect the seismic shifts wrought by the 1960s. Nurtured on the rightist orthodoxies of his dynasty-building father, Bobby Kennedy began his public life as counsel to the redbaiting senator Joseph McCarthy. He ended in it with a noble campaign to unite working-class whites with poor blacks and Latinos in an electoral coalition that seemed poised to redraw the face of presidential politics."--

I think this is well researched, with a lot of detail, but not well written. There is too much detail and the important information is lost in it. A shorter book that focused more on the important events and character traits would be preferable to me.

My only read of a Kennedy biography, piqued by author’s eloquence at a CNN event, after I’d been more interested in learning about Bobby than Jack.
An impressive literature originated from superb journalism, quenched my thirst to know everything of that important era and the impact on later generations.
As much as I wanted to concur with author’s view on Bobby, “the Priest”, better President than Jack, “the Pope”, for the country, I don’t see the speculation more than a wishful thinking.

More propaganda on a dead fellow who isn't around to deny it - - that Cuban bullcrap has been disproven time and again as propaganda spewed forth by CIA-related sources. The wiretap on Dr. King was undertaken by the FBI, who it was ordered by has never been adequately proven, so one must go with J. Edgar Hoover until otherwise proven.
Beyound dispute is that the // girl with the polka dot dress \\ differently described by witnesses than the young college student blonde the LAPD/Ramparts police brought forward - - Valerie Schulte, with Schulte having an aunt and uncle who worked in the same classified section of Lockheed as the part-time security guard, Eugene Cesar, while Schulte's father worked on a contract with Lockheed at his job at the Technicolor Corporation, and the head of security at Lockheed was VP Nixon's former personal Secret Service bodyguardy, who would return to Nixon's presidential campaign after the murder of Bobby Kennedy.
