Great movie

Alan Rickman directs, co-writes and plays the Sun King in this clunker. He's good, and Winslet is good, but Matthias Schoenaerts is wasted, the film's pacing is atrocious, and the score is so sugary and vapid it's distracting.

Beautiful film: slow-paced but sensual with a quiet, thoughtful feel to the story. Cast and direction by Alan Rickman are excellent. Love the sets and costumes.

Creative re-imagining of women as design architects during the heyday of the French monarchy. The love story starts rockily and succeeds only because---in a twist--the man has the strength to resist current court morals. Kate Winslet apparently was very pregnant during this filming; Alan Rickman is good as the King.

Noteworthy mainly because Alan Rickman produced/directed (one or the other) & stars as the king. K. Winslet is always strong in character. Matthias S looks silly & not half as good as he did in Madding Crowd, yet I enjoy his presence. Not a film I'd care to see again, once was definitely enough.

..for when your feeling like a romantic setting with costumes in muddy gardens (sometimes) or remembering Alan Rickman (always....sigh)

I love how the movie is fiction but at the same time has real historical figures in it. It was very entertaining movie. You get to see how much work it took to make the outdoor ballroom a reality. Very entertaining and different.

Alan Rickman's last film is a slow, pretty love story that is less than the sum of its parts. We never really learn what makes the lovers tick, let alone feel much for them, and it doesn't help that they have less chemistry with one another than with other characters: he with his straying wife, and she with the king of France (Rickman). A Little Chaos only comes completely alive in one scene, where the court ladies loosen their stays away from the men they must please. It is pleasant and touching to see Winslet and Rickman acting together again, but the story, let alone the love is just not there.

Visually pleasing yet sorely lacking credible characters and solid script. Plenty of pomp but no circumstance.

Beautiful! A gift from an amazing actor/director. Thank you, Alan, for this parting work.
