I enjoyed this movie - good contrast between vapid and someone in touch with their life - in the end there isn't any answer - people go on -

Very disappointed with this movie. First half ok, then when downhill. What was the point? Waste of time.

This didn't work for me. I have pet goats, who I cherish, but I can't believe she would keep it in her house. I also didn't find Hayek's grief believable. Rather than a "sensitive soul," she came off as mentally ill. Lithgow was as evil as I have ever seen him--and he can be pretty menacing. I suspect it is the script that failed here rather than the acting or directing. Not truly horrible, just a huge letdown after all the hype and such a long wait.

The first half of the movie was entertaining enough watching the culture clashes between all the characters. But everyone was pretty one dimensional and their actions and opinions were flat and exactly as you would expect them to be. I think a whole different & better movie could have been made about Beatriz's character, her past history and background, how she came to become a healer. The few flashbacks her character has are way more intriguing than the film content and the ending just kind of drops you as a viewer off a cliff with no resolution. Disappointing.

This is a sharp, witty, insightful movie. Beatriz is a spiritual person whose spirituality is challenged when she meets abrasive real estate mogul Doug Strutt at dinner. The ever kind and generous Kathy is host and caught in the middle of the struggle of these two strong-willed people at opposite ends of what is right. Performances are very strong all around. The mansion where all of this plays out serves as a kind of island on which the party-goers are a bit trapped when words (and cellphones) fly. The movie is in the capable hands of writer Mike White and director Miguel Arteta.

I liked the way it was going, but the ending left it laying flat. You never get the sense that Beatriz would have made the final decision she did at the end. I got it because there were some very good actors, but I felt like it was a waste of my time.

I looked forward to watching this movie since I heard all the interviews on NPR along with the hype as it sounded like it would be an intelligent and sophisticated discussion at the table. Instead it turned out to be a cheap cliche designed to appeal to the masses. Typical Hollywood trash. It could have been a real treat had it been written by someone who was qualified and not some TV soap opera hack.

Salma Hyack was great. As well as John Lithgow. I would say just expect an emphasis on the Dark instead of Comedy in this , self proclaimed, Dark Comedy.
