A fantastic series, but I agree that the last season is weak. I had a couple of Orwellian moments watching the final episode the second time. I first borrowed the last season in June and the final episode included a lifeless speech by Raymond Schwartz at a commemoration ceremony. When I watched this in August it had been deleted. More significantly, in the same episode the Communist Party fetes Gustave, they sing "The Internationale", and Gustave meets his father's ghost. By far it is the best moment of the entire season, yet again, poof - down the memory hole.

By far the weakest one in the series. A lot of padding and jarringly over-the-top melodrama. It's only around 5 hours long, but would have been better as a 2 hour finale tagged on to Season 6 or a single 3 hour disc. Some moving scenes as we say goodbye to the main characters and hear some of the bitter lessons of history, but not nearly as well-written as earlier seasons.

Historical well done with an incredible cast. Normal people trying to survive in the worst of times. Good additive series!

An interesting technique to incorporate the preceeding events in the present; almost like a summary. Good legal, ethical issues about behaviour in various official posts during and after the war years. The choices you can and cannot make. Almost everyone has something to hide weather guilty or not.
Some parts towards the end were streched but the acting is very good.
A well done historical series.
