Add a CommentThis is by far Anne Perry's best work. She should stick to historical fiction, where she is best at developing her characters and immersing the reader into an era. Developing a mystery and bringing it to fruition/completion, she often falls flat. Hoping for more true historical fiction from Ms. Perry!!!
This was a great story. I really enjoyed the main characters. Anna becomes involved with a number of powerful people and interesting events. I loved learning about the Constantinople of this time.
Reading this I thought "What a great HBO series this would make, like Rome". I love history based fiction and this was recommended by a family member. I really liked this book.
Thinking it would be a murder mystery, I was a bit disappointed as it was only really a secondary plot. The descriptions of Byzantium are rich and makes the city come to light.
