I LOVED IT! I have this huge thing for fairytale retellings, so this was a really nice treat for me to read.

Loved the story hated the ending, it just stops with no explanation of reason. The twist on the boring version of the Cinderella story was refreshing to read I thought the main character Ash was was gay, which was a rare treat finally in a fairytale for once this felt closer to reality. However then she flirted with the elf. I was like oh OK. But the author never really made it clear who Ash preferred the Huntress or the Elf. So I hope there be another book to continue on a bit more.

Most of the book was good, if slow at times. Ending was incredibly abrupt.

Malinda Lo tells a great stroy but she built up too much to end so suddenly. i loved the idea of the book and the book itself but the ending was such a disapointment just because it was so sudden..Also i love how all these people have a problem with the bisexual aspect it cracks me up get over it and if you really thought she was just her friend you either werent paying attention or just cant grasp the idea of two girls together because it says it in the description jesus its 2013 get over it. =)

Though the writing wasn't the best at times, I really enjoyed this story. Not only are the main characters implied to be Chinese, not white, Ash is a bisexual girl who makes her own choices. It had me wondering at some points why other books couldn't be written like this, something slightly more unexpected than the typical Cinderella story.

Huntress is a prequel; lesbians

I agree 100% with Nina_Maria_Francesca. Why take one of the most beloved concepts of romance, aka: Cinderella, and just twist it until it wasn't even the same thing or anything worth reading?

I really wish there were more voices like Lo's in the YA sphere today. If I had had this book when I was growing up.... well. Just take my word for it and read it.

this book was terrible. i hated it. the ending surprised me so much, it destroyed the book. why would someone make such a twisted version of a Cinderella book? i would NEVER recommend this book.

I love the book. It's a nice and interesting twist to a fairytale we all know and love. It makes the story fresh and I couldn't put it down.

In the wake of her father's death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King's Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash's capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love

In this variation on the Cinderella story, Ash grows up believing in the fairy realm that the king and his philosophers have sought to suppress, until one day she must choose between a handsome fairy cursed to love her and the King's Huntress whom she loves.
